Implementation and teacher training
session of the CD-ROM Forests For Us All
The UBC outdoor class - Summer 1999

The program is highly visual which is excellent for those in grade eight. It also has a strong element of fun built into it. Unlike a video, the students have control over what they want to learn about.

It fits nicely into the science curriculum dealing with issues like charactersistics of trees, animals, plants, food chains, and lifecycles. It demonstrates patterns and grouping to further enhance critical thinking in these areas. It explores endangered animals and what can be done to help these species. Ecosystems are thouroughly examined and the basic principle of sustainablity of forests is the main concept of the CD.
The package comes with a teachers manual with suggested teaching stratgies along with specific correlation to the curriculum, which is a great guide for teachers to look at to find specific examples and correlation of learning outcomes and suggested teaching strategies.
It is important to note that common and consistent levels of child development are addressed by curriculum in most countries. In addition, various academic abilities and differing learning styles abound in classrooms throughout school systems. The teacher resource, intended to serve this global audience in effective classroom use of the CD-ROM, will embrace these challenges and link to relevant learning outcomes.

Here's what teachers are saying:

I'm excited by the concept of "Forests For Us All", a new interactive software program and online component developed by Leboe & Grice Multimedia. As an educator in the Home Economics and Career and Personal Planning Field, I continually seek resources which foster learning in an interactive, engaged manner. If the ultimate goal in education is to create responsible citizens, locally, nationally and globally, then interactive learning experiences for students are critical to the successful accomplishment of this goal."

Lorna MacDonald, teacher

Having viewed, and having met to review the updated CD Rom, we are excited about the product and its potential.
- This CD Rom has depth and complexity that has application for a variety of subject areas (forestry, environmental education, social studies, career education, career preparation programs, personal planning/carreer and personal planning discussions).
- This CD Rom has potential use throughout our education system - grades K through 12."

Mr. Norm Monroe, Director of School Services, School District #57

I like the log book and scrapbook idea incorporated in the program. It can be a good evaluative tool in making sure the students are doing their work and not just fooling around. It actively involves the students with the program and provides a good opportunity to learn from the CD.

I would recommend that teachers look at this CD and consider it has a lot of potential. It is great for all ages, show immedite cause and effect, provides extensive knowledge tours, and has good visuals to help increase understanding. It also is good for ESL students as writeen and verbal instructions and explanations are provided.

Teachers from around the world will be posting creative ideas how they are using this product in the classroom to create lifelong learning experiences. ideas@forestsforus.com
